Summary

Having completed the final project, project 2 saw the first attempts at some special mapping and post-editing methods, and lens-wise I did some testing for FMP.

In this film I was responsible for set construction, texture mapping, character animation, lighting, rendering, post editing and soundtrack.

Week 20: Facial expressions Final

This week I continued with the facial expression character animation, as I was not happy with the previous week’s spline, which was too fast, so I first changed the spline to slow down the overall pace.

Then I started tweaking details such as the fingertips not coming to the table at the same time, the head movement being more like a bouncing blob, the face having a richer expression, the accuracy of the mouthpiece matching the audio and the timing difference between the arm and head movements. The character animation course was very rewarding, I learnt to move the drawing step by step, I knew some techniques and I grew to love this part of character animation.

Week 19: Facial expression spline & My project

This week I continued to work on the character animation part of the facial expressions, firstly I modified the blocking-plus part to include more intermediate frames, then I switched the curves to spline to add more detail.

Week 18: Facial expression Blocking-Plus & My project

This week I started working on the blocking-plus for the facial expression character animation, first I modified some of the keyframe animations and shots, then added some of the keyframes and made them match the audio better.

This week we started post-production of some of the finished rendered footage, mainly using nuke colour grading and pr for editing and post-compositing. The switching of the two scenes is a very important shot in the film and will be brighter with this editing and compositing technique.

Week 17: Facial expressions Blocking & My project

The character animation of facial expressions continued this week. Firstly, I started with the animation in blocking mode to help with later changes, and I k-framed the key expressions, and languages.

This week I’ll be partially rendering footage for post production, colour grading with nuke, using pr to create the Tyndall effect, adding subtitles etc.

Week 16: Facial expressions reference and sketches

This week kicked off with a new character animation, this time focusing on facial expressions as well as upper body body movements, I chose lines from Joker from 《 Batman: The Dark Knight 》with a performance of my own creation.

Week 15: Details & My project

This week we have continued to work on the character animations, refining the details, adjusting the sit down at the beginning so that the character looks around before sitting down, and secondly, modifying the speed of the movement after a scare, and modifying the movement of the box and the spring.

This week some of the rendered shots were put into pr for post compositing. I added snowflakes all over the paper scene part of the film to make the story more bleak, to have a deeper contrast with the later episodes, and to highlight the loneliness of the male protagonist.

Week 13: Blocking-Plus & My project

This week I finished blocking plus, modified some key actions based on the changes given by the teacher last week, and secondly added some key frames, added a horror box to make the plot more logical and complete, so that the characters are frightened and thus make actions.

This week working on the character animation part, such as walking etc, and some shot animation, I created a Hitchcock zoom in the final shot.
For some of the finished character animation shots I started lighting and rendering, all at the same time.

Week 14: Spline & My project

This week’s character animation was modified from blocking to spline to round out the overall animation. I mainly changed the speed of the character sitting down, changed some key movements, added some interesting shifts, cancellations etc.

Some of the shots in the film have a strong impact on the plot, so I wanted to use some special shots, such as the Hitchcock zoom, which is very classic and often used for thrills and shocks, and I used it to convey the shock of the hero when he sees the heroine in the film.

Week 12: Animation Blockimg & My project

This week I finished making the character animation blocking. The teacher’s suggestion was to change the pose of some movements to make them more exaggerated, and on top of that, continue adding keyframes.

The number of uv’s is very large and I have scattered the various uv’s in different cells; the material maps for cars, trees and buildings all need to be made in two versions, paper and coloured.
