Writing my first report was a big challenge for me, to be honest I was confused and even a little scared of this course at first, before this I had only written essays on my short films as an undergraduate student, so I thought it would be very hard for me, at first when the teacher asked us to come up with a subject of interest, I’ve been thinking about the AI painting, because it’s been so hot these last two or three years and some of his work has been amazing to me. At the very beginning, my topic was: can AI painting replace human artists, I explained my idea to my teacher via email and in class, and my professor’s suggestion was that the topic was a good one, but it was too wide and it would be hard for me to prove in report whether it was possible to substitute ai paint for human artists, so I narrowed it down and It was changed to the differences between the painting of the ai painting and the human artists and the advantages and disadvantages.
In the process of writing, in order to really explore ai painting, I studied some of the websites of ai painting and really felt the power and drawbacks of ai painting. As an animation student, we need to draw concept drawings, scene design, colorkey, which are relatively professional, challenging and time consuming images of drawing in the pre-project stage, and the birth of the ai painting, which can help me Of course, even the most powerful ai is based on the human mind, it will always learn, put together, and it has no way to produce anything new at all, yes, it is very powerful, but there is still a long way to go before it can take the place of the artist who is a human being. it is a very powerful thing to do.
During the writing of this report, I learned a lot, such as what the methodology is, how to validate my thesis, how to find examples to support my ideas, and the use of the literature, I think the process of learning about them is more important, it will enhance some of my thinking, for example, through the ual library I have collected many papers on AI painting, It was a long process and I spent a great deal of time doing research and reading, which was a crucial stage and I really enjoyed the process.
I suspect that what I learned in this class, and the process of writing report, will help me in the future, and may be of great help to me in my dissertation.

About Report

As a 3D animation student, my major is closely related to film, so in the process of writing my REPORT, I watched some films as well as videos about ai, which helped me a lot to understand more about ai and even answer some questions with the perspective of ai, such as how ai painting can help human art now and how the future of ai painting will develop.

I searched online for websites on how to use ai painting and watched some instructional videos before I started making ai paintings myself, and in my essay I have put in the failures I made using ai painting.

About Report

At the very beginning, after deciding on the topic I wanted to explore, I first decided on the table of contents and the topics for each chapter. For ai painting, which is a new field, I needed to first explain to the reader what it is and how it works, and I even studied ai painting specifically for this purpose, which was an interesting process that not only turned some of my traditional ideas about ai painting upside down, but also taught me new skills. It was very beneficial.

For the citation part of my essay, I mainly looked up ual library and google scholar. At the very beginning, the books and literature found in ual library did not satisfy my topic, so I used google scholar to find more literature on ai painting, I noticed that because ai painting has only appeared in recent years. I noticed that because ai painting has only emerged in recent years, most of the literature I found was from more recent years. For the very beginning, I would first focus on their table of contents and abstracts, which would allow me to determine more quickly whether it was suitable for my article.

Week 7: Paraphrase

Horness Roe(2013,Animated Documentary) believes that documentary pictures, like evidence, prove the authenticity of the documentary and are closely related to it.

For my report: Can AI replace human artists. I want to study some of the problems in it. For example: Will humans stop studying ai to prevent it from getting too smart?

Week 6:The Animated Documentary

Amin, who is of Afghan descent, has settled down in Denmark and is about to marry a gay couple. In the face of the happiness within reach, there is an insoluble knot in the heart, the memory of childhood suffering, still lingering after growing up. Childhood infatuated with Jean-Claude van Damme, but born in troubled times, home quiet life was destroyed by the war, he fled with his family to Moscow, and then the painstaking smuggling to Copenhagen. In the form of animation, the director asked his friend Amin to tell the truth and recall the days when he was drifting from place to place, and the corrupt police and cold-blooded snakeheads he had met. The last thing that can’t escape is the secret that has been pressing on my heart.

With the development of scientific records, the evolution of humanistic thoughts and the change of people’s subjective consciousness, the creation techniques of documentaries are also ever-changing greatly. However, its core has not changed. It is undeniable that documentary, as a form of record created by people, still needs more needs to reflect people’s subjective consciousness and common life experience. It cannot be completely objective Among them.

Recording cartoons has more advantages. Although it is based on the historical restoration of scientific basis, no one can guarantee that science is 100% correct. So its authenticity is not comparable to the documentary. And films created by people are bound to be more subjective than documentaries. But he can restore clips that a documentary can’t restore, and it is actually more artistic than documentaries. It can also be said that animated documentaries are a derivative of documentaries, but more like an art form.

Week 5: Notes on Monstropedia

It is an animated short film released in Japan in 2017 by the author 山村浩二. It mainly shows documents of fictional monsters written by fictional monster scholars in medieval Europe. Where did they come from? Where were they going? Strange text and the ecology of monsters, unfolding with English and Japanese subtitles.

The background of the work is like a picture book of primary school students, which is cheerful, entertaining and full of imagination. I think the author wants to let the audience exert their imagination through such a technique of expression, and also shows the importance of animation principle.

I think the work has educational significance. It is just like a picture book, which introduces each character to the audience. Therefore, this presentation method can make the audience pay more attention to the characters. The large English and Japanese annotations are like those in popular science books, and the kraft paper in the background is more like reading a book.

The material used in the production is like a pen on the paper, which makes the audience feel brought in. The most common animation principle gives people the original animation, highlighting the design and imagination of each character in the short film.

In the short film, each character is placed in the center of the stage. As for the middle of the audience’s perspective, the fusion of weird and quaint is very interesting. The vivid image, interesting creativity, and rich colors make people feel like watching another picture book at any time. The background music in the film is a cheerful steel piano music, which is matched with the harpsichord. It is very advanced, and the music speed changes in an orderly way, allowing the audience to integrate into it.

Week 4: The secret of Walter Mitty.

The secret life of Walter Mitty tells a warm story, Walter. Miti, a film washing manager who has worked in Life magazine for 16 years, is introverted and unable to even talk to his favorite colleague Sheryl. As a bystander, he often “dreams” as a day hero. Until one day the company was acquired and the magazine needed to do the cover of the last issue, and the key to its success was to find a roll of film from the wild photographer Sean, Walter finally approached Sheryl, and was encouraged by her and her mother on a real adventure, the ice fields, the sea, the Himalayas… Walter’s daydreams are far less magnificent than reality.

I divided the story line into eight parts:
(1)The hero is introverted and a dreamer. He does not dare to take the first step to treat the beloved person. Life is boring and boring.
(2) The hero learns that the company is going bankrupt, so he will wash the cover photos of the magazine for the last time.
(3) The protagonist discovers that the cover photo of the last magazine was not sent to him by the photographer, afraid that the leader scolding scold.
(4) The hero has no choice but to look for a photographer.
(5) Along the way through the adventure of the ocean and the volcano, the hero gradually love life.
(6) During the time limit, the hero did not find the photos, was expelled from the company, and gradually passed away from the beloved person.
(7) Finally, the hero finds that the photos are all around him, and the most beautiful photos is himself who loves life.
(8) The hero transcends himself, gets true love, and enjoys life.

I think the prototype of the protagonist is an introverted, timid, content with the status quo, before the start of the movie, he lived the same life every day, not too much social, but he loves his work, every day in the dark room witnessed the birth of every photo, he will do different daydream every day, treat beloved things and people only dare to view, dare not take the first step.
